Welcome to The Big Summer Energy Sustainability Series

In the spirit of the summer solstice, we’re creating a #BigSummerEnergy series to research and spark conversation around the business of summer and what it means for sustainability, society, and the economy.

As recent graduates, Jane Esslinger of MIT’s Sloan School of Management and Carolyn Canetti of ITCILO’s Social Innovation for Sustainable Development, we want to motivate ourselves and our networks to consider all the aspects of what we love about summer in the frame of what it means for people and the planet.

Through this summer series, we aim to be informative, and nudge us and our audiences to be thoughtful consumers and participants in our daily lives.

Together – let’s learn where our food comes from, let’s applaud the people who make the wine we love to drink, let’s support the businesses that make our favorite destinations special, and let’s value what we interact with before and after it goes through our hands.

Some of the topics we’ll be sharing include:

  • energy efficiency in transportation and at home
  • eating and shopping local
  • inclusivity on summer vacation
  • the good and the bad to summer tourism
  • the future of ocean farming
  • rising tides and climate change
  • creative summer fashion
  • how to achieve more circular waste habits

What topics do you want to know about? Writing from the east coast, we aim to interview kelp and oyster farmers, hit up our local waste municipalities, survey our networks, chat with small business owners, and give big shout-outs to those who are working towards sustainable futures, while providing easy ways to change our own individual habits and perceptions.

Send us a topic you want to learn more about through Instagram @travelundertheradar, or email us at travelundertheradar@gmail.com.

Thanks for your support and interest– and we look forward to a great summer!
